Welcome Coach Conner

1) When did you start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in 2013 after getting bored with my same routine in the local gym. I had lost 100lbs and wanted something that would give me my strength back and work on my aerobic capacity. CrossFit was the answer.

I started coaching in 2014 at my first CrossFit gym in Tampa, FL. CrossFit 813 gave me an opportunity to do what I love and I will forever be grateful for them. They are and always will be family.

2) What degrees/certifications do you hold?

I have my degree in Exercise Science from The University of Tampa. My CrossFit Level One, United States Weightlifting Level 1 Performance Coach, CrossFit Scaled Course, and I’m also First Aid Certified. Future Certs include my Precision Nutrition, and CrossFit Level 2.

3) What’s your athletic background?

I grew up playing baseball and continued that all through College. I was lucky enough to bring a State Championship to Portsmouth Christian Academy in 2010, and then continued to play down in Florida. At the University of Tampa (Division 2), I was a Relief Pitcher for all four years. We won 2 National Championship (2013, 2015). If you ever want to see my rings just let me know! Besides the National Championships, my favorite memory has to be pitching against the Philadelphia Phillies for 3 innings in a Spring Training game.

4) What’s your favorite & least favorite CrossFit movement and WOD?

My favorite CrossFit movement has to be the Squat Clean. My favorite WOD is Hero “DT”. My least favorite movement is Handstand Push Ups (although I’m getting better!) and a WOD I will never do again is 14.5/16.5 Thruster and Bar Facing Burpees. No thanks.

5) What’s your favorite thing to do outside the gym?

Being back home, I really enjoy just walking around with my dogs. Either in the woods or in the downtown areas.

6) What excites you the most about coaching at The Port?

The Community. I know that may be said a lot about this place. But honestly guys, from a coaches stand point, this community is always striving to be better. In my time here I’ve noticed that when you each walk in, you have goals, you stay after class, you ask for help, and you want to be the best version of yourself every day. Not only is that motivating for me to see, but it motivates me to be the best coach possible and work hard to give you guys the tools you need to get better. I can’t wait to get settled in here and become best friends with all of you. #StrengthinCommunity
