MICHELLE
1) How did you get involved in CrossFit?
I am fairly new to the area having moved here from DC and I also work from home. I was doing a lot of workout DVDs (e.g. Insanity, P90X), but wanted to do something that got me out of the house. Many people I knew had been trying to get me to try CrossFit so it seemed liked the perfect time to do it.
What was your first WOD/experience?
My first WOD was a partner workout. Being new, Sophie kindly volunteered to be my partner. For a portion of the workout we had to do as many pull-ups as possible and Sophie did 50 – absolutely amazing! I was left awestruck, inspired, and a little intimidated.
2) When did you start coming to CrossFit Portsmouth/ how long have you been CrossFitting for?
I had my introductory training sessions with Sophie at the end of September 2013. It was perfect timing because the federal government shut-down around the same time so I was able to get started quickly.
3) When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?
I realized CrossFit was right for me right away. I love the comradery, the fact that the workouts are always different, and the intense workouts.
The trainers have made a huge impact; I usually workout with Justin who has been extremely patient and encouraging.
I am extremely grateful for all for the dedicated trainers and the amazing athletes that I get to workout with on a daily basis.
4) What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals?
Overall, I would like to build strength and confidence. In the short-term I would like to Rx a workout. As I progressively get stronger, I am hoping to be able to do handstand push-ups and pull-ups.
5) What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?
I love the partner workouts. Working with a partner helps push me because I don’t want to let my partner down. I love working as a team – balancing out each other’s strengths.
My least favorite movement is front squats – I have a lot of trouble keeping my chest up!
6) What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?
I work for the Department of Health and Human Services. I have the opportunity to work with thought leaders across the country to develop policy for the use of health information technology to improve healthcare. I love my job and am very passionate about it.
7) What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
Bikram yoga, skiing, running, dancing
8) What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?
Paleo: Anything spicy or with avocados
Non-paleo: I love frozen yogurt!
9) Fun fact?
When I lived in DC I didn’t have a car giving me a greater appreciation for the days I am able to take the top off of my Jeep and just drive.
