The Open is coming…

It’s that time of the year again where we put our fitness to the test in the CrossFit Open. However this year we are doing things a little differently.
We are going to use the open as an opportunity to have an internal competition. This will be the first time CrossFit Portsmouth participates in an Intramural Open, and I think it is going to blow past years out of the water.

In the past, signing up for the open meant competing as an individual against over 100,000 athletes worldwide. Each week we cheered each other on and scores went online amongst the fittest on the planet. It was you against the world and even with the support of the CrossFit Portsmouth super-community it felt a little like you against the world. This year it is going to be very, very different. We are going to be doing the Open workouts similar to last year, however this year the twist is each person who is committed to the Intramural Open will be on a team. Each team will have a captain and there will be points awarded each week based on participation and team spirit.

For this in-house competition, the main emphasis of points will be on participation and pride, not performance. So don’t be worried about not being ready, or not being good enough. All that’s required is that you show up, work as hard as you can, and cheer on your teammates.

Our goal is to make this a fun experience for everyone, bring our community together while testing our hard work that we put in over the last year.

Signing up for the Intramural Open is $5. There will be a sign up sheet up front, and all you have to do is specify whether you will be competing Scaled or Rx.
*If you want to see how you stack up to others around the world, you should officially register for the Open on the CrossFit website. I recommend registering online for many, many reasons, one of which is scores are always saved to look back on. Plus your team get 5 points extra for doing so. Cost of registering for the Open is $20.

Draft Day
The week before the Open begins (First workout announced Feb 26th) our 4 amazing captains will take turns selecting team members from the pool of individuals who have committed to the Intramural Open. This will be done at random to make as fair as possible. After draft day, captains are then allowed to convince member to join their team who might not have applied to the draft. Teams must be the same size, so certain caps might be enforced.
Coach’s scores will not count for their teams to keep teams fair

Workout Days

I will go over standards for the movements for everyone prior to starting the event
