1) When did you start CrossFit?
I started CrossFit In July of 2016 when I first moved to Portsmouth. After years of a very similar gym routine, I decided it was time to mix things up. I walked into my first class at CFP, spoke to Justin, and the rest is history! I’ve been hooked every since.
2) What’s your athletic background?
I grew up playing baseball and was lucky enough to play through college at Bryant (even a few summer leagues since). After graduating, I became sort of a gym rat where through the years I did my own weightlifting programming and a little personal training when I lived in Upstate NY. I recently just took my L1 course at CrossFit OneNation and enjoyed every minute of it!
3) What’s your favorite & least favorite CrossFit movement and WOD?
I’ve really learned to enjoy the gymnastics portion of CrossFit. I’m constantly trying to improve on my muscle-ups and handstand push-ups! I also really enjoy rope climbs and handstand walk. From a weightlifting perspective give me the deadlift! As far as my weaknesses go, I’ll be the first to admit that rowing and the bike always put a hurting on me. Also, Open WOD 16.5 (thrusters and burpees) absolutely destroyed me.
4) What’s your favorite thing to do outside the gym?
My favorite thing to do while I’m not at CFP is anything in the White Mountains – hiking, ice climbing, snowshoeing, skiing. I find it very peaceful there and an amazing place to unwind or get away from the rigors of everyday life! I’m doing my best to travel more, and hope to have more countries in Europe along with the West Coast checked off my bucket list in the next year or so. I’m also a big fan of a simple summer night that consists of good IPA beer and using my grill.
5) What excites you the most about coaching at The Port?
Without question, the community is the biggest thing that inspires me at CFP. I’ve never met a group of people who willingly push themselves on a daily basis (both physically and mentally). I feel privileged to be a part our community, make you all better and help you reach your goals!
